We are planning an exciting and informative series of workshops and programs. For 33 years, AAHGS has held a national conference to assist African Americans in the search for their roots.

General Information

Conference Location

All conference workshops and activities will be held at the Embassy Suites Airport Hotel (Convention Center), 204 Centreport Drive, Greensboro, North Carolina 27409.  Phone: 336.668-4535.  On-site parking is complimentary.

Transportation

Greensboro, NC is easily accessible by air. The Piedmont Triad International Airport is located 5 miles from the Hotel and 8 miles from downtown Greensboro. The Amtrak Train Station (Gaylon Transportation Center), 236 East Washington Street, in Greensboro, NC is 18 miles from the Hotel. Embassy Suites provides a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport.

Room Rate

Special room rates of $124.00 (single/double) are available for AAHGS conference registrants. The conference room rate is available beginning on Monday, October 1st through Monday, October 8, for individuals wanting to arrive early to conduct personal research. There is a sales tax of 6.75% and 6% occupancy tax on each guest room. Each of the 219 spacious two room suites consists of a private bedroom attached to a living room area. The bedroom has either a king size bed or two double beds.

Reservations must be made by calling the Central Reservation Service at 1-800-Embassy or by contacting the hotel directly at (336) 668-4535. When making reservations, be sure to request the AAHGS conference rate. The Internet Group Code is "AHG". The deadline for receiving this room rate is September 13, 2012. Rates cannot be changed at check-in or checkout for guests who fail to identify their affiliation at the time the reservation is requested.

Special dietary needs must be detailed in writing and submitted with the registration form.

Pre-Conference Tours

Pre-conference historical tours featuring the A&T Four Statue & International Civil Rights Center & Museum Sit-In Movement; NC State Archives & Genealogical Library Tour, & the Mendenhall Plantation; & Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum at Historic Palmer Memorial Institute.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be in writing and postmarked no later than August 1, 2012.  All cancellations will be subject to a $50.00 processing fee.
