Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS)

 

The Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS) established in 1977, is a national organization dedicated to promoting scholarly research, study, and publication of the history and genealogy of Americans, with a particular interest in persons of African descent. Headquartered in Washington, DC, AAHGS. Affiliated with the National Genealogical Society and the Federation of Genealogical Societies, AAHGS chartered its first chapter in Columbia, Maryland in 1989 and continues to charter new chapters in the United States and worldwide.

 


About the Hampton Roads Chapter

The Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS) Hampton Roads Chapter is a non-profit 501(c)3, based in Hampton, Virginia. Focused on the study and preservation of the history and genealogy of African Americans, the Hampton Roads Chapter strives to preserve family history, genealogy, historical and cultural diversity through teaching research and preservation techniques and disseminating information throughout the community. 

Located in Hampton, Virginia meetings are held the second Saturday during the months of January -June and September - December at 1:00 p.m. in the Hampton Public Library, 4207 Victoria Blvd, Hampton, VA 23691 - Hampton Public Library
