About Us Board of Directors Elections History of AAHGS AAHGS Founders

In accordance with the Bylaws of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Incorporated, the Nomination and Elections Committee requested your nominations for elected offices commencing in January 2012 through December 2013. You were advised that to qualify each candidate must have been a member for at least one year; and, nominees for president must have served at least one term in another position on the Board of Directors prior to nomination for president.  You have nominated the following candidate(s).

The Nominees for Recording Secretary: 

Image 4Alice F. Harris has been an active member of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) for almost seven years. In January 2010, Alice activated the Central Maryland Chapter of AAHGS in Columbia, Maryland, and is currently President of the chapter. Among other activities, the Central Maryland Chapter held an ancestral libation ceremony in honor of enslaved ancestors and has sponsored orientation tours of local research facilities. Alice teaches African-American genealogy courses at Howard Community College. In 2011, Alice was presented the AAHGS President’s Award for her service to the organization. Alice is passionate about genealogy and hopes to inspire others, particularly our youth, to learn more about their heritage.

 

The Nominees for Corresponding Secretary: 

Image 6Carolyn Corpening Collins Rowe has served AAHGS as (National President,  Vice President of Genealogy,  National Conference Chair, National Membership Chair, and National Volunteers Chair and is currently serving as the  Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) Representative.  A charter member of the Prince George's County Maryland Chapter  she served as the Chapter's first President and has held the offices of Vice president, and Treasurer.  She serves as  Chair of both of the Chapter's signature programs (the Juneteenth Celebration Seminar and the Maryland Legacy Day Seminar) and coordinates the workshop series in partnership with the Prince George's County African American Museum and Cultural Center
