Chapter History

AAHGS-New York received our charter in 1989.  One year later, Jean Sampson Scott, founding member of both the national organization and the New York chapter, passed away. Mrs. Scott was an author, educator, lecturer, genealogist.  To honor her memory,  the chapter renamed itself the AAHGS Jean Sampson Scott Greater New York Chapter (AAHGS-NY).

AAHGS-NY members are committed to learning, teaching, discussing, researching, writing, and exchanging views related to genealogy, genetic genealogy, family history, and the African American experience as conveyed in the legacies, cultures, lifestyles, and histories of centuries of African-ancestored people.
