AAHGS PRESIDENT SALUTES FOURTH OF JULY OBSERVANCE; KEEP SIGHT OF THE AIM OF DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS) extends warm wishes for a celebratory and safe Fourth of July holiday. AAHGS President Baba Gene Stephenson said we all understand this holiday celebrates the Declaration of Independence of the United States from Great Britain, when the country was known as the Thirteen British Colonies, but for Afro Americans there's more to it.

AAHGS SALUTES NIKOLE HANNAH-JONES UNC TENURE STATUS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Afro American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) salutes Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones on receiving tenure status at the University of North Carolina that AAHGS National President Baba Gene Stephenson said is a powerful affirmation of her heralded body of work and the significance of Afro American history and genealogy.

AAHGS Commends President Biden’s Signing of Legislation for Juneteenth Holiday; Role of Historical and Genealogical Society
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) President Baba Gene Stephenson today commended President Joseph R. Biden and both Houses of Congress making Juneteenth (June 19) the nation’s 11th federal holiday, and noted the significance of historical and genealogical study. The holiday has been celebrated in 46 states.

AAHGS CONTINUES REGISTRATION PREPARATIONS; TWO WEEKS REMAIN FOR CALL FOR PAPERS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) continues preparations to open registration for the virtual 2021 annual conference, as it seeks to exceed the organization’s 2020 record-number of 775 registrants. The 2021 conference subject areas for presentations include: DNA Testing; Educational Sources and Methods; Ethnicity, Race and Nationality; Family Presentation; Genealogy; History; Migration; Military; Preservation; Research; and Special Topics.

The 2021 theme is “Genealogy as History, History as Genealogy: The Duality of Discovering Your Ancestors.” The annual conference will be held virtually October 13-16, 2021.
