The AAHGS NC Triangle Region Chapter


The NC Triangle Region Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS) is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to support the national organization of AAHGS by providing resources for historical and genealogical studies, creating a supportive network among researchers, and showcasing and celebrating the findings.

The purposes of this organization are: 

To encourage scholarly studies in local and family history;

To encourage individuals who desire to share genealogical and historical expertise to enhance the heritage of African Americans;

To host workshops and seminars, that present informative speakers on history, genealogy, and cultural aspects of our heritage;

and to support and carry out the objectives and policies of the National Society.

Chapter Events

Regular meetings are held monthly on the 1st Saturday of the month in March, April, May, June, September, October, November, and December.  The society does not meet in July or August.

Meetings start at 10:30am Eastern and are in hybrid format. 
 

Chapter History

The NC Triangle Region chapter of AAHGS was first established in 1978 by Minnie Keith Peebles.

It was re-chartered in October 2014 with 16 founding members, after being reorganized at the West Regional Public Library in Cary, NC, in Spring 2014
